He played Batman, Jim Morrison and Iceman in Top Gun. But I remember him best, for some reason, from "Top Secret!," an Airplane-like movie that was one of his first big roles.

Val Kilmer, ‘Top Gun’ and Batman star with an intense approach, dies at 65

I thought he was great in "Tombstone" as Doc Holiday. "I'll be your Huckleberry."

Great actor and very versatile.
He had a long struggle with throat cancer.
He did not always hit the right spot, though.
The Saint in 1997 was terrible with some laughable scenes supposedly in Moscow which was very obviously not Moscow at all.
I actually have a DVD of "Top Secret."
Very funny movie, yes done like a Cold War version of Airplane.
I remember there is one French character named Latrine.
Always makes me laugh.
Unfortunately he was probably the worst Batman, but can't blame an actor for being offered and accepting that juicy part.

Kilmer should have won a best supporting Oscar for 'Tombstone'.  The most memorable performance in a classic and beloved western.  Then again, he also played the main bad guy in McGruber, which balanced things out some.

a lovely tribute from London.

Mr. Kilmer always reminded me of the young Marlon Brando in his masculine energy and a certain unknowable quality to his personality.

I haven't seen Maverick yet, above is the last meeting between Mav and Iceman, but how satisfying it must have been for all the producers, actors, directors and crew and Tom Cruise to be able to honor their old friend and colleague.

A good wingman is everything, in movies and in real life.

RIP Val Kilmer
