The final leg of the almost endless race for new Liberal leader (and hence our next P.M.) is important enough that some local radio stations are ditching all those rerolls for actual honest-to-God live programming on Sunday.

It's no surprise that CBC Radio 1 will feature extensive coverage until a winner is named. And 680 will provide the expected updates.

But normally canned CFRB is also taking time out from its paid time shows and endless rerolls for the event. It appears they will be simulcasting CTV coverage, but at least they're doing something. The special starts at 4PM and is supposed to last until 9 o'clock, but if the inevitable happens and no winner is named by then, it will likely go longer.

AM640's weekend line-up doesn't indicate it's going to cover this, although oddly they do have special programming. The station's website indicates they're going to be running a live show on the U.S. tariffs. But I imagine they will mention the Liberal race. The show runs from 2-5 PM, although there's no immediate indication on its site about where it's coming from or who is hosting it.

Good to know that while Sunday is a day of rest, when it's important enough, they'll at least go live when needed.

Not sure what happened, but AM640 has been airing a reroll of Mulroney on Sunday afternoon, even though its website indicated this:

One of the advantages that CTV has is that some of there people have both a radio show and a tv show.
This matters because instead of using words like " let's watch as this person speaks" they say " let's listen as this person speaks." It's a small thing but is a big deal when listening to a TV simulcast on radio.
For the most part Bell media got today right. Today I was able to listen to part of the show in my car, then continue watching the same show when I got home.
I thought today was done right on what looked like a very small team covering this. I'm not sure what was the highest number of reporters CTV or CBC once had for and event like this. Today it looked like one host and one reporter on the floor.

I thought both CTV and CBC did a good job. Both networks had well chosen pundits. The audio mix on CTV was a bit off. Not enough of background auditorium audio and at times the hosts audio sounded a bit distorted.

Speeches were all fine IMO. Trudeau and Carney's daughters both did well and neither seemed intimidated or nervous speaking in front of a large crowd and millions watching. Chretien went a bit long but he was funny at times. Loved his crack about nominating Donald Trump for the Order of Canada. To thank him for uniting Canadians.

On my trending with Bell Fibe after 5pm showed CBCNN at #1, CTV News Channel #2, CP24 #3, CBC #4. This didn't change much during the evening until after Carney's speech. So lots of people tuned in on Fibe at least. Carney did briefly mention Poilivre wanting to get rid of CBC. He said this at a time of increasing misinformation and foreign interference.

At least the next federal election will likely be more interesting and closer than it would have been a few months ago. And the Liberals have moved back to the middle.
