It was an admittedly unusual circumstance and one I don't think I've ever seen before. I'm assuming most of us did not see NBC Nightly News on Saturday, because WGRZ was showing its annual telethon. But they threw the network package on Channel 2.2, normally the home of Antenna TV.

Towards the end of the show, regular Saturday anchor Jose Diaz-Belart was doing the obit on a Florida Congressman named Lincoln Diaz-Belart, his own brother. He briefly reviewed his sibling's life and accomplishments, noted that his funeral was today and called him a "great brother."

When the camera came back on him, he looked for a very brief moment like he might break down, but he held it together and moved on to the next story. But I'm sure it wasn't an easy piece of copy to report.

The fact that he still did the news on the day of his brother's funeral is a bit odd, but I have no idea if they were close or if it was a case of the show must go on. Either way, it did.

I've watched him on MSNBC. Jose Diaz-Belart is a professional, but that was beyond the call. Incredible.

Jose Diaz-Balart was also the anchor of the flagship national nightly newscast of NBC's sister Spanish language network, Telemundo (basically the Lester Holt of that network).
