I've never watched this show, but as a dog owner, it fills me with pain to know such a wonderful creature is gone. He was not only beautiful but very smart. A real loss.

From Canadian TV scribe Bill Brioux:

Oh no! Only eight years old too 😢 I feel bad for his families, both on- and offscreen.

This was announced on 680 NewsRadio 2 or 3 nights ago, very late night.

When Mitch Burke made this on air with the first words, I thought John Reardon had passed.

I wonder if the show will go on for the next season?

They got creative when John had to leave the show for a bit (a few phone ins)
so, if they can get creative there, I'm sure they can squeeze at least one more season in, new dog(s) and all...

I have read a few articles on the book of face regarding the death of Diesel. He was one of three regular used dogs for the show, although he did perform the majority of close ups and stunts. As much as I like dogs, I just can't have another one in my home, my wife and I are still hurting over the loss of our border collie  boy from a year ago , he was 11. Why can't they live longer .

My dog is 12 and has been diagnosed with liver cancer. They gave him just a few weeks to live back in November, but he's still here. I am working 24 hours a day to keep him going. It's been tough but worth it and I will hang on to every single second with this special boy.

I've always said, "God made everything perfectly about dogs, except one - they don't live long enough."

In my case, eternity wouldn't be long enough.

I've been where you are and have great sympathy for your loss.

Our household does watch Hudson and Rex. It is a comfortable show with a feel-good component. I am impressed how the writers have been able to rework their scripts with the unexpected absence of the lead (well the human lead) actor. Reardon was present at the start of the season, so his  illness would have caught them unawares. Obviously they were able to move a costar into the main story lines, but that would have left them scrambling to build new secondary themes. Reardon’s social media post in December leads one to assume he will not reappear in this season’s episodes, so it will be interesting to see if his character continues as a voice-only presence or gets written out entirely for this season.

Thank you sir. There are a few dogs at some of the locations I deliver parts to for Napa up here in The Greater Sudbury Area, so  I still get to pet a furry head daily. I wish your pal all the best and that he is not suffering. I know you will do what is best for him.

Thanks for your good wishes. I will do whatever it takes to keep him comfortable as long as possible. He is the best thing in my life and it will never be the same without him!

The only downside of having a pet that gives you unconditional love is having to say goodbye. I have been there a few times in my life and it is never easy so I feel for you RA & mic’em.
