I've long been a fan of CKTB's early Sunday morning show that starts at 6 AM, with the so-called "Secret Hour," where host Karl Dockstader and his producer Ryan Williams kibitz with each other over everything and nothing. It's usually pretty entertaining, especially considering that - outside of 680 News - it's the only live show left at that time on the last day of the weekend.
So I was disappointed to tune in on Sunday and hear there were "changes" coming to the show and apparently, to CKTB itself now that the new owners have taken over. Dockstader hinted that the changes would likely not be all that drastic but listeners might notice them, whatever that means.
One of them is that Williams - who has a great on-air chemistry with the host - is leaving the station to go to Whiteoaks' Hamilton outlet, The Legend 102.9, where he'll serve as the morning show producer. It's too soon to know if his replacement will have the same sense of humour and chemistry that he brought to the show he's departing from.
As to what the other "changes" may be, they didn't really elaborate, but I'm sure they'll become obvious in time. But while I'll miss this dynamic duo, at least the show will continue and remain the only live general talk show on early Sunday morning radio in Southern Ontario.
But I suspect it just won't be the same.
