I've never been a fan of former SNL star Pete Davidson, but his new series, "Bupkis," is getting a lot of good critical buzz. It airs on Peacock in the U.S., which is not available in Canada, and is also on cable's Showcase north of the border.
But what happens if you don't have access to either of those? In a rare move, Peacock - owned by NBC - has released a full episode of the show for free on YouTube. In another rare move, the entire half hour will also be shown on NBC, following a rerun of this week's Saturday Night Live. The critics have mostly been kind to the series, but viewers have not always been kind to Peacock, which has not seen the kind of success of other streamers like Disney+ and Netflix.
This one-time freebie is designed to hook your interest in the service down south and attract more subscribers. But there's another motive, as well.
"The move to put an episode of Bupkis on NBC and YouTube is an attempt to help it reach a broader audience in time for Emmy voting. With both platforms, NBCU can target a range of viewers, as broadcast viewers tend to skew older while YouTube will leverage a younger audience."
