Next to the death of Hazel McCallion and the infamous train derailment, there's probably never been a bigger story in Mississauga than the official decision to allow the city to divorce itself from Brampton and the rest of Peel Region. The announcement officially came Thursday afternoon and got fairly big coverage, with interviews and pressers on both CFRB and AM640, not to mention extensive coverage on CBC Radio 1.
And what was little CKNT doing as this seismic shift was happening to their city of licence? I believe they had Marc Patrone on from Florida, talking about the federal government, Pierre Poilievre, and perhaps how Fox News deserves what it's getting for firing Tucker Carlson.
Look, I really didn't believe they'd actually cover this, or even take the press conference with the mayors of Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon live. But their original promise to the CRTC indicated they would broadcast matters of importance and interest, including those affecting City Hall, and cover the news relevant to the area of licence. I'm not sure how talking about Fox News fulfills that.
But what else would you expect from a station that calls itself Sauga 960 and broadcasts from studios in Etobicoke with a 416-area code phone number? Even with a small staff and few resources, they had plenty of notice this was coming. Perhaps a special on this huge change would have been warranted.
Another wasted moment in the saga of Sauga.

My guess is the time is pre-sold to the individual programs and or hosts. I have never heard any of the 960 broadcasts other than Greg Carrasco the odd time. Are they live or voice tracked during the weekdays ?

DID CKNT cover the news about Brampton and their viewpoint that there will be a 72 million dollar hole to fill?
They BETTER be the first to report who the new Mississauga Mayor is in January, or they will really look silly...
