CFRB's John Moore Narrowly Avoids Being Attacked At TTC Subway Station

CFRB morning man John Moore experienced a taste of the terror some have experienced on the TTC Tuesday, after taking his car into get his snow tires removed. He was on his way into the subway while waiting for the service to be completed, when he spotted a man acting strangely while interacting with some transit workers.

He used his Presto card to open the gates at the College Station, when – with no provocation – he says the guy suddenly turned around and lunged at him, with his fists in the air. Moore managed to avoid him, and the workers let him in through another gate, leaving the crazy guy locked out of the entrance.

He wasn’t hurt but he admits he's pretty sure the attacker would have tried to hit him had he been able to reach him. Both were total strangers to the other.

He has to go back to get his car later in the day – and now, like so many other Toronto residents who've seen this going on, he absolutely does not want to take public transit. He's almost certain to talk about this experience on his show Wednesday morning.

Until then, you can hear the interview about the incident he did on Jerry Agar’s show here

The Toronto Sun has taken up this story, led by reporter Joe Warmington, who is a longtime friend of the CFRB host.

This victim of TTC violence has a loud mic and mayoral candidates listening

Love John Moore.    However, Elvis Duran the morning guy at Z100 told a similar story today too.   Is there some radio spinster at work here?

Paywall. Also, is it wise to identify the TTC station in the OP?

I've tried several times and did not get a paywall even once. We seem to be out of sync lately! Some get and some don't.

Try this, and scroll past all the stuff at the top.

Thanks, RA. Agar link worked first time, while something got in the way at the Sun. Following your reply here,
original Sun link worked a second time. Guess TTC station ID isn’t a big thing, as John mentioned it.
Wisely didn’t locate his regular parking spot.

Re: CFRB's John Moore Narrowly Avoids Being Attacked At TTC Subway Station

Two more media types have had worrisome encounters on the subway in the past few days.

The most prominent has to be former Toronto Star entertainment reporter Rob Salem, after he was confronted by a crazed man at the Davisville station, who spit on him for no reason. Salem admits he shouldn't have reacted the way he did, shoving the guy out of the way hard. His younger assailant responded by attacking him violently, leaving him with two black eyes and a broken nose. (The pic from his Twitter page is posted below.)

And on Wednesday, John Oakley's producer, Michael Downey, related his own close call on the subway, where he said a man mistook him for someone with money because he was uncharacteristically wearing a suit to work on his way to AM 640. The stranger accused him of being rich and demanded he immediately buy him a sandwich. When Downey refused, there were some tense moments, but he ultimately emerged unscathed from the unsettling encounter.

There's no reason, of course, why media people would be immune to this sort of thing. But hearing about their experiences firsthand in a blog or on the radio just reminds you how weird it's become to ride the Red Rocket in these troubling times, why it's become a major election issue in the mayor's race - and why, for now at least, no one feels really safe on public transit.
