How Rick Moranis Ended Up On CHUM-FM

With those Bob & Doug McKenzie anti-beer tax commercials airing on the radio, I came across this article from 1983, in the days before Rick Moranis essentially became a recluse, as he is today. It explains how he got his gig at CHUM-FM - and why he almost didn't take it.

(Imagine being on CFTR while you were still in high school!) But he notes his radio experience came in handy after he hit it big with SCTV. And no, it has nothing to do with Gerry Todd!

Re: How Rick Moranis Ended Up On CHUM-FM

The video above was from the series run in the 80s while it was in production at ITV Edmonton. This "Tom Monroe" video was shot in "downtown" Leduc, Alberta...   never gets old!

Incidentally, with the Christopher Cross spoof at the end, the audio engineer recording the "Mike McDonald" fake vocals is Jamie Paul Rock, who was one of the original Floor Directors at Global in the 70s.

And love the way that Moranis played and vamped the ending to his "show" and into the Christopher Cross video...  just stretching it out until he hit the post....

"Thanks for being with us... Bye Bye..  Take care... See ya next time... So long... "     Hilarious!

I recall hearing on this very board that Moranis was the unfortunate jock that Zappa walked out on when he discovered that management had physically scratched out tracks on his records to keep them from being played.

How common that type of stuff was then?
