Veteran Canadian Broadcaster Returns With A Show On PBS

It's been a few decades since anyone has heard from broadcaster Valerie Pringle. But the former CFRB and Canada AM host is coming back in a big way - and on the one network you might least expect - PBS.

Pringle is hosting a multi-part series on the educational outlet called "Canada Files." Its aim is to present some of this country's most famous people and remind Americans of their Great White North origins, including guests like Eugene Levy and Randy Bachman. Many of the shows are shot in WNED's Toronto studio. (Did you know Channel 17 had a studio in Toronto?)

The show has actually been on for a few years, but Pringle has agreed to take it over and looks forward to meeting some famous Canucks.

The first episode airs Sunday night at 6 PM.

Valerie Pringle to host new season of PBS series

Looks like this is specifically a WNED show not carried by the full PBS network. No sign of it on the schedules for WTVS, WQLN, WXXI, WPBS, or KCTS.

It’s easy for Canadian news writers to forget that PBS is an association of independent stations with no uniform schedule.

During Ms Pringle's run with Canada AM she was interviewing Paul Stanley of KISS fame who was appearing in Toronto in Phantom of the Opera.

It was 1999 & I'm enjoying the interview when the conversation turned to why Paul Stanley would take the role. Ms Pringle opined that he certainly likely didn't need the money. And then she asked him if he was a millionaire. Really??

Without looking it up I think KISS started about 1973 or so & had made a few records & a few bucks - some 25 years + before Ms Pringles dumbass question

Why was that a dumb question?  Plenty of celebrities who have earned millions of dollars aren't millionaires. Lots of them have taken other jobs after investing poorly, being tricked out of their money by managers or financial advisors or by squandering it away.

Speaking of KISS, here's an amazing classic moment from the old Mike Douglas Show, where Gene Simmons is being, well, Gene Simmons, complete with all the make-up and imaging.

He's sitting beside Totie Fields, a long-since deceased comedian and frequent talk show guest, who's having none of it and calls him out in the strangest way possible. The eye roll pictured below perfectly sums up how she felt about the whole thing. The video of the moment is underneath that.
