What works in the U.S. doesn't always translate to big ratings in Canadian radio, especially with the CanCon regs. Still, this new format has had a huge debut down south, and it's only natural to wonder if it would be equally successful here. (Although as we learned with oldies, sometimes there's a massive spike, only to see it come crashing down when people quickly tire of the same songs over and over and over.)

I'm sure Newcap knows what they're doing.
They've done their research and concluded that their current move format is what works best for the Toronto market..
"The next big format"? Really? This is what 'it's' come down to? [Yes but only for these past 20 or so losing/lousy meaningless, industry killing years.] "The next big format"!!!???!!! No one has a friggin' clue what to do except to copy the guy who somehow LUCKED into something that worked for MAYBE a minute. Not a soul.
What's the ACTUAL "next big format"? Really and truly? Easy. L isten to your target audience, figure out [with similarly targeted audience aged programmers/MDs] what 'they' REALLY want... ... ...and then ... give it to them. That'd work. Don't lead them down YOUR artificial garden path. Don't 'decipher' what it is that they're 'trying to say'. Just react directly to their 'asks'. Want people to LISTEN to YOU? LISTEN to THEM.
Simple formula. And it's N E V E R / E V E R done.
Why? Fools know better.

The throwback hip-hop format seems to burn out faster than any quick success format that's ever come along. Though this one has had the best debut so far, so it may settle into a good spot.

It works well if you play the right mix. I've stopped listening to The Move as their playlists are recycled to death with all the same throwback tracks being played.
