‘The great blank to me in all the Rogers succession drama of 2021 was Tony Staffieri, the CFO who was fired and then rehired as CEO following one of the ugliest and most publicly embarrassing business feuds in Canadian history. He was right there in the middle of it all but he never talked. Even now, a year into a tenure that has included perhaps the most catastrophic network meltdown in Canadian history and a $26 billion merger that continues to drag on and on, Staffieri remains something of a ghost. After months of research, I sat down with Staffieri at Rogers HQ to talk about the war that brought him to power the “butt dial” he says never happened, the network collapse and the rumours about who is really in charge at the company he technically runs.‘
