Dr. Phil will be packing up his TV couch...

I don't think I can cope with this seemingly constant barrage of news...  First Tom Brady is retiring (again) and now I learn that Dr. Phil is departing daytime TV... (I just might have to get a prescription for some of those big pharma meds advertised on Fox and MyTV affiliates... just to cope you understand...)

Phil McGraw, America's TV shrink, plans to end 'Dr. Phil' after 21 seasons

Re: Dr. Phil will be packing up his TV couch...

I was about to say good riddance but was disappointed to see this charlatan is only moving on to more big things where he can exert his fake rubbish.
Phil (I refuse to say doctor because he is doctor of nothing) the great moral man who defaulted on his personal jet airplane bills.  He chided men for being overweight and encouraged them to get in shape?!!! while being a corpulent creep.
He joins the ranks of people hyped by Oprah who include Dr. Oz.. fraud artist and failed politician James Frey, fake memoir writer and of course Tom Cruise, promoted by Oprah at the height of his Scientology cult leadership  and and psychologically damaging marriage to Katie Holmes.
Great track record, Oprah.. who once tried to crash a private function at Hermes headquarters in Paris and was gobsmacked to find French people had never herd of her and wouldn't let her in.
Great track record.
You get scammed ... and you get scammed ... and you get scammed.

Re: Dr. Phil will be packing up his TV couch...

This guy has his mitts in a number of other things. He was the basis for the title character and a producer of the six season-long series "Bull" on CBS.

This year, he's back producing another show, "So Help Me Todd" on the same network. It's been doing pretty well ratings-wise so it's likely to be around a while. In fact, this was just announced:

'So Help Me Todd’ Renewed at CBS

💡 Could be an opportunity for a new specialty channel or show.

Voiceover: "Scammers and Snake Oil Salesmen! We'll look at the real deal from the unreal people, all of them idiot savants without the savant part. Scammers and Snake Oil Salesmen, coming this spring!!" v/o pause "Check your local listings."

I could never believe the people on his show are real.
She  won't leave her abusive husband.
He won't end his affair with his step-daughter
She won't stay away from the casino
He doesn't believe he has an addiction
She - - - -

To me, Dr. Phil was the same as Jerry Springer.  They used different methods.

Look at it this way...maybe Dr. Phil will run for a State Senate seat in 2024...  Dr. Oz tried in Pennsylvania...

Re: Dr. Phil will be packing up his TV couch...

This could be the real reason he's getting off the couch.

"Despite the fact “Dr. Phil” averaged more than 2 million viewers in the 3 p.m. time slot — the second-highest rated show in daytime behind ABC’s “Live with Ryan and Kelly,” according to Nielsen — the show had become radioactive for many sponsors, according to sources close to the situation."

‘Dr. Phil’ tried to revamp itself in final months as sponsors fled: sources

Re: Dr. Phil will be packing up his TV couch...

Twenty one years?  Maybe the show has run it's course.  I wonder about Dr. Phil's health.  I don't watch the show but I have seen bits and pieces over the past few years.  I have noticed that the doctor looks tired and he seems to have problems walking.  Maybe it is his health as much as anything, and he is 72.

In terms of the advertising.  Could be his viewers are just too old overall?  You know the type that most advertisers don't really want.
