Whatever is wrong with John Moore's voice, it's becoming chronic. The veteran NT1010 host has been having bad voice issues for the past few days and was absent for three days last week, with Jerry Agar filling in.
Agar was back Thursday morning, but it came as something of a surprise even to him. Moore started the show, but his voice gave out sometime into the 5 AM hour and Agar was unexpectedly called in to take his place. Whatever you think of Agar - and there are many here who try not to think of him at all - I think he did a pretty good fill-in for someone who had no notice and no prep for what is always a busy morning show.
So who takes his place at 10 AM? The answer appears to be Mark Towhey but how long he'll be on isn't certain. Agar has speculated he may have to stay on air until 2 PM, a very long shift.
I believe most who gather here appreciate John Moore. It's worrisome that he's been having so many absences in a row and that the problem doesn't seem to be resolving. If it continues, they made need a longer-term solution, although I have no idea what that would be.
[Update: It was a day of schedule disruptions on the station. Turns out, Agar did the first hour of his regular show from 9-10AM, at which time Mark Towhey took over.]
