Former Global Reporter/Anchor Mike Arsenault Lands With Rogers

Just a few months after Global anchor/newsman Mike Arsenault posted a blog about being let go from the network after it cancelled one of its weekend shows, it appears he's landed a gig with CityNews 680. I heard him doing a weather forecast in the past few days and didn't realize he'd been dismissed. But he's now landed on his feet.

In his blog post from several months ago, he noted, "I was surprised at the decision--considering how many different roles I worked at Global News throughout my time there--I also wasn't naïve to think that I'd be able to avoid another layoff in the media industry until I hit retirement age."

I don't see his name in the "Team" section of CityNews, so I'm not sure if he's there full time or on a freelance basis, but the guy's very good on air and I'm happy to see he landed a new gig.

Rogers can go fuck themselves. They have now allowed twenty-three Indian scammer robocalls to ring through to my office phone in the past two hours, with no ability to block the calls at my end.

I'm not entirely sure this will work for you, but are you on the federal Do Not Call list? Of course, it doesn't really work. But if they DO call, you can then at least issue a formal complaint. From what I've seen, one of the few things the CRTC has been doing lately is going after a lot of these guys.

The joker in the deck, though, is that if you're doing business with the irritating caller(s), they may have the right to contact you as part of your existing relationship.

You've got nothing to lose in trying though. You can find out more here.

That isn't Rogers. What it is, is apps that allow people to spoof numbers. The problem is no matter who the carrier is people can spoof a number and make it look like a legitimate number calling you. Then things like this happen. I used to have a cell phone with freedom and with Koodo. The number of calls I used to get was ridiculous. 3-5 a day. Now, 1-3 a week tops. So it isn't Rogers that allows that.

I’ve never done this before: How do I block “Forward Power?”

I reported Forward Power's post but I don't know if it goes though.

I did get your complaint, although there's no edict here about using the "F" word. It's discouraged but not verboten. However I have taken note of the problems surrounding this particular complaint and will address the poster one on one. He has a tendency to occasionally fly off the handle, but for the most part makes some interesting points in many of his posts.

He occasionally gets a bit emotional over some things and that happens. But I hope he will tone it down in the future. There are rules for this board, which were actually written by its former moderator, Iain Grant. You can read them here if you like. I left them mostly alone, but I added one: It's OK to disagree. It's not OK to be disagreeable

I've worked really hard to keep civility here and for the most part have succeeded. Believe me that's not easy in the world of social media! I hope we can keep it that way in the future. So thanks to all who wrote me about this. You've been heard.

This is just my opinion.
swearing: borderline.
being racist: unacceptable.

Just to be fair, I believe he was referring to India, not Indigenous people. A lot of telemarketing schemes and robocallers originate in what's called "boiler rooms" in India, and that's why Canadian authorities have so much trouble stopping them. So in this case, I believe the term "Indians" refers to someone from that country and not the original residents of Canada.

That does change the context somewhat.
