Is This The Greatest Political Attack Ad In The History Of TV?

Normally, the race for a Pennsylvania Senate seat would not be worthy of your attention, but one of the candidates has put out an absolutely scathing but hilarious 80-sec. ad showing how his opponent - the well-known and Trump-backed Dr. Mehmet Oz of Oprah fame - is similar to the fictional quack, "Dr. Nick Rivera" of "The Simpsons."

The commercial apparently does not have the permission of Disney, which owns the rights to the show and the character, and so it remains to be seen if, well, it will remain to be seen. But it's worth catching before or if it's pulled down. Now THIS is true political advertising genius. Next to the infamous "Daisy" ad from the 1964 U.S. presidential election, this may be my all-time favourite political attack commercial.

Probably not the greatest, but Fetterman's team has done a very good job of beating on Oz without mercy. Who knows if it will translate into a win.

Re: Is This The Greatest Political Attack Ad In The History Of TV?

It will be interesting to see if this ad ever ends up on TV.  It actually is more like something you would see on the Simpsons.  Most of the political ads I have looked at on Detroit TV so far have been about abortion rights, cuts to medicare or candidates accusing each other of being corrupt, and of course a bunch of propositions.  Bit of a shit show in Michigan.

One of the radio forums in Detroit mentioned a while back that the real reason that CBS62 is bringing back local news coverage is because the Detroit owned and operated CBS station is missing out on millions in political advertising.  The other local Detroit stations usually have two or three political ads in commercial breaks during news broadcasts, or any local breaks for that matter.  I have noticed that Detroit and area is always in campaign mode locally for the various levels of government, so the political ads are on going.

CBS62 gets almost none of this since they don't have any news, other than the network news at 6:30, and the CBS morning show.  The other local affiliates  have some local public affairs/lifestyle  programming through the week which also is full of political ads and CBS62 misses out on this as well.

So even though CBS is spending millions setting up a news department  and everyone agrees they will be bottom of the ratings, the payoff should be even more millions in political advertising.   The last time the station had local news was over 20 years ago, and this is the third attempt at news for WWJ.   It has been over a year since CBS announced local news was coming and apparently they hope to be up and going sometime soon before the end of the year.
