Could This Finally Break The Grasp Of Bell-Rogers-Telus Stranglehold?

Elon Musk's SpaceX Starlink will bring satellite cell phone service to everyone on earth - including Canada. There's no word on when it will be available or how much it will cost, but it does have a few big advantages. It gives consumers a new choice to escape the never-ending greed monging of the Bell-Rogers-Telus triumvirate, and because it's satellite based, you will conceivably be able to use your cell phone anywhere in the world without any extra or roaming charges.

As the story below indicates, it's not all perfect - the speeds will be slower, which will be a drawback for some. But there's no saying that isn't a problem future iterations of the service can't fix.

Musk says “the phone you currently have will work”.
That's not very specific. Does he mean a phone made within the past two years? Or does he mean a current phone even if it is ten years old???

Coincidentally, last night I started to watch this video of how it all works but fell asleep before it was finished.
