Back To His Future: Before He Was Famous

This isn't about radio, but once in a while I come across something in my archives that I find so unusual, I just have to share it. Such was this article first published in TV Guide way back in August 1972, 50 years ago. It centres on a showbiz newcomer who was just starting to get noticed but was far from a household name.

Indeed, that name would change, which is why it seems so strange to see him continuously referred to as "Steve" in the text. At the time of this story, that "Steve" - last name Spielberg - he was only 24, fresh out of college and looking for a break.

I'd say he found it, and likely far more than even he could have imagined.

It's easy to look back at someone's career after they've made it big. It's far more fascinating to read about him in a contemporary way when neither the subject nor the author knew what was coming. That, to me, is what makes a jewel forever frozen in time.
