Wooden stylus for metal disc?

This may be a longshot but does anyone have a lead on a gramaphone owner (or anyone for that matter) that might be able to play a metal disc that needs a wooden stylus?  A friend has two such discs that resemble CD's from 1941 - voice recordings of servicemen recorded during the war in England.  I'd love to get them digitized for her.

I think that a round wooden or bamboo toothpick might just fit a vintage acoustic gramophone like a Victrola.  You may have to experiment with filing the point.  You would have to make an acoustic recording of the result on your smart phone, but that would give you a ready-made digital file.

I remember using fibre? needles on elderly wind-up gramophones. You could try a cactus needle. Visit your local hot house with a sample steel needle and you might get an interested employee to "pluck" some samples! Does U of T have a botanical section?
