The Law & Order SVU & FBI Episodes You'll Never Get To See

It now seems like centuries ago, but it was back in 2016 that an episode of Law & Order SVU was pulled at the last minute in both the U.S. and Canada. The reason? The show was titled "Unstoppable" and was about a rich magnate running for President of the U.S., who was accused of rape late into the race.

As always, the ripped from the headlines show wasn't based on any real person or event, but with the election - the first in which Donald Trump was running - coming up like a freight train, NBC brass decided not to air it. It's now been six years, Trump has been out of office for two of them and the next election is more than two years away.

Yet "Unstoppable" has been far from that, and not a frame of it has ever been seen. As a fan of the longest running drama in TV history, I've been trying to find out when - or if - it will ever hit the small screen. And then I stumbled across this article from 2017. And it looks like the network has made the decision to never let it hit air now or in the future, claiming it's 'hopelessly dated.'

How can a fictionalized story be 'hopelessly dated? 'It's a great question they won't answer, but it means no matter how faithful a viewer you are, there's one episode of SVU that you will never get to see.

As it turns out, that's not the only Dick Wolf production that has a show missing. The second last episode of the CBS series The FBI also has an unaired but fully produced program. It's not specifically about a school shooting, but that's part of the plot. It was supposed to air the same week of the Uvalde, Texas school massacre and the Eye Network decided it wouldn't be appropriate to put it on. So neither Global or CBS aired it.

And according to this story, there are no immediate plans to put it back in the run. Given the number of mass shootings down south, there's a chance it will forever sit on a shelf unseen, too.

Maybe one day in syndication, both will turn up. Until then, they're the episodes of two very successful and popular shows that are ready to go - but may never see the light of a TV screen.

'Prodigal Son' will be available for streaming on Paramount+ sometime over the summer, most likely ahead of the season 5 premiere.   No fanfare.  Just keep checking.
