Supriya Dwivedi proves her exit was 640's loss

https://www.thestar.com/opinion/contributors/2021/12/19/delayed-action-and-innumeracy-plague-our-pandemic-response-and-well-pay-the-price-later.html

It's a heck of a lot more than a little unfortunate that Supriya Dwivedi had to leave 640's morning show for the reasons she gave. This piece she wrote in the Toronto Star shows once again she would have been an intelligent voice for GNR am640 listeners to turn to as the Omicron story unfolds.

No idea how things are with Supriya these days re: working in the media, but radio sure could use her right now.

Radio stations need to stop droning on repeating the same tired sentences daily during their reporting on and discussing the Omicron variant, they're coming dangerously close to numbing listeners into reaching for the dial or tuning out.

If people would listen and follow the directives we could finally move past this, but sadly it'll never happen.  I bet we'll be hearing about Covid for another 5 years at least.

I couldn't agree more...   I even say if the public did what they should have back 2 years ago when this started, we would not be still here in this mess.   The issue isn't the media... it's the general public who have become so untrusting of authority, professionals, and using the internet for info without context of who the info is coming from.

Government has not done things right here either, but the general public is the reason this is still an issue 2 years later.    Masks, staying home when possible, avoiding gatherings, travel, etc would do wonders.. but too many just won't do it...   and act like it's over when it's not..

Only people to blame here is ourselves... not the media and their info you may not agree with...

I agree with everything you said, but for the above. I know you were likely using the 'royal' ourselves, but I, for one, have followed EVERY advice from government and the medical professionals. I'm double-vaxxed and boosted. We mask up everywhere but for our home. We haven't seen the inside of any restaurants, theatres, arenas, neighbours or relatives homes, etc. for two years now. It's all done by ZOOM.

Still it rages. Until the overwhelming majority (in North America and around the globe) get fully vaxxed, this thing will live with us like an unwanted in-law. That means people like Maxime Bernier, Eric Clapton, the entire tRump-cult and millions of other hold-outs MUST get vaxxed. For god's sake, people, how dumb can you be?

(Insert a video of a vaccine-denier, in the ICU, begging everyone else to get the jab, now that it's too late for the patient on his/her deathbed.)

I don't always agree with Charlie, but while I didn't dislike Supriya as a person per se, as a talk show host I found her incredibly dull and uninteresting to listen to. Doesn't mean she's not intelligent - she was accepted to both medical and law school, so she's way past me in the intellect department. (Actually, the fire hydrant on my block is well past me there, too, but at least my dog likes it!)

I just found her hard to listen to. But everyone has their own tastes. Certainly, looking back, pairing her with Stafford may not have been the best plan for a morning duo.

Dwivedi was without doubt the worst talk radio host I have ever heard.

A sizeable amount of 640's target audience agreed with this.

Oh, do ignore the fact that they are blackshirted goose-steppers. Comes with the territory.

I don't disagree with you. I think she would have been better in the same time period Alex Pierson currently occupies on 640, she certainly sounded like a different more relaxed and comfortable person on the days she was on-air when Mike was away on vacation etc. Definitely not the person to host a morning show. Maybe not even a radio personality at all unless someone took the time to mentor her performance. Encourage her to put a smile in her voice and drop the lawyerly lecturing edge her voice had which made her hard to listen to. She had the same delivery at the end of her time on 640 as she did at the start.

I doubt she was helped by any mentoring or even weekly sound check reviews. She's too smart to have remained so static.
