Jerry Howarth: 'I Don't Miss Calling The Jays' Games'

In a wide-ranging interview with the Toronto Star, former Jays play-by-play great Jerry Howarth weighs in on retirement, his favourite players, where his famous sign-on came from and, of course, the terrible decision to use TV audio on the radio.

"It was disappointing. No matter how you do a simulcast, it’s not radio and it’s not the same. When I heard the simulcasts, it was not the same. And you can’t blame the announcers."

I miss Jerry on the radio, but it’s nice to hear he’s doing well.

I don't miss him at all.  Tom was by far the better of the two.  "There she goes" is a lazy home run call.  Using the same call for a ball that ends up in the first row and one that ends up in the 500's is doing a disservice to the listener.
