I'm not sure if this is "celebrated" in Canada, but many stations in the U.S. are marking National Radio Day on Friday. It's unclear why August 20th was picked, although those behind the event suggest it could be because it was on that date that WWJ Detroit first went on the air in 1920, making its claim that it was the first true radio station in the world - KDKA's claims notwithstanding.

Thanks for this RA, National Radio Day is bittersweet.
I am full of respect for everyone working in radio these days, it's a labour of love even more than back in the day when I was on-air.

I'm just a guy who listens and watches (TV); but thank you. After joining this Board I can certainly attest to the fact that you folks are not in it for monetary rewards!
