Veteran Baseball Broadcaster Dies At 90

Joe Garagiola was perhaps one of TV's most unlikely stars, among the first to go from playing baseball to covering it for NBC and others. But he also hosted game shows, authored books, guested on panels and had a prominent seat at the Today Show table.

Re: Veteran Baseball Broadcaster Dies At 90

His son Steve is a long time reporter/anchor  at Detroit television station WDIV channel 4.

Back in May of 1968 some of the old timers here may remember that John Lennon and Paul McCartney appeared on The Tonight Show.  Johnny Carson was not hosting that night. The guest host was none other than Joe Garagiola.
It had to be the worst interview in the history of the program. After about 7 tension filled minutes both Lennon and McCartney pretty much walked off.

A grainy less than perfect copy of that interview can be found on Youtube.
