Indeed. There may be no more frightening word in the English language than "cancer."

Oddly, when I was told in my late 50s, I was upset but didn't flinch. I don't know why, but I was sure this thing would not get me and I refused to dwell on it - although, it's always there in the back of your mind. I can't imagine what it was like to hear it in your 20s! Been cancer free (knock on wood) for three years now, heading toward the goal of five.  

But one thing still disturbs me. I remember asking one my doctor's interns how long it would be until I could consider myself "cured." Her answer was chilling. "Oh," she said, "we never use that word!"
