What are your top 10 albums of all time on this Labour Day Weekend?

These are albums, that are now 50 years old...pretty remarkable, when at times it feels like yesterday when these came out...

Today for a little fun, if you were to share your top 10 albums of all time, what would make your list?

What makes the grade for you? What do you like to pull out of your collection and listen to once in a while?

For me, bands like Supertramp, Genesis, Pink Floyd and Alan Parsons Project make the cut, but then so does, Snarky Puppy, Gregory Porter, Frank Sinatra, Tears for Fears, AC/DC, Joni Mitchell makes my list too...I am a bit eclectic...

But do share your top 10 albums of all time.

Re: What are your top 10 albums of all time on this Labour Day Weekend?

1. Roxy Music - Avalon
2. U2 - The Unforgettable Fire
3. Supertramp - Crime of the Century
4. Joe Jackson - Night and Day
5. Genesis - Trick of the Tail
6. Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel ;)
7. Elton John - GoodbyeYellowBrickRoad
8. Metallica - the black album
9. Alan Parsons Project - I Robot
10. Def Leppard - Pyromania

the above are absolutely random, off the top of my head... to definitively choose my ten top albums would be like having to pick the top 10 hockey players of all time, kinda tricky because of the generational factor

I wanted to throw "The Soundtrack of the Trailer of the Film of Monty Python and the Holy Grail" in there, but that would be cheating right?🥥

Re: What are your top 10 albums of all time on this Labour Day Weekend?

@ betaylored.... i'm sadly disappointed with your addition of metallica's "black album" instead of one of the band's first three albums  (justice doesn't count).  If you were going for popularity over substance, then you should have listed def leppard's hysteria instead of pyromania!

however, you redeemed yourself with the monty python reference, so i guess you're still an ok person.   extra props for the coconut emoji. was that a contractual obligation, or just looking on the bright side of life?

In no particular order here's my list for you to critique....
Benny Goodman - Carnegie Hall 1938
Pink Floyd - Animals
Led Zepplin - IV
Deep Purple - Machine Head
Metallica - Kill Em All
Extreme - Pornographitti
Tragically Hip - Road Apples
Colin James & Little Big Band - self titled 1993
Junos 25th anniversary box set - Oh What A Feeling 1996.
U2 - Rattle & Hum

Re: What are your top 10 albums of all time on this Labour Day Weekend?

Okay, I'll play along. Like Betaylored, my list is off the top of my head and without rankings. Just some of my favourites. And I'm afraid there are more than ten. Blame Steely Dan and Springsteen. I simply could not choose one album from each.

Bruce Springsteen: The Wild, The Innocent And The E Street Shuffle
Bruce Springsteen: Greetings From Asbury Park
Bruce Springsteen: Born To Run
Gordon Lightfoot: Don Quixote
Genesis: A Trick Of The Tail
Stan Rogers: Northwest Passage
Supertramp: Even In The Quietest Moments
Joe Jackson: Big World
The Beatles: Abbey Road
Steely Dan: Aja
Steely Dan: The Royal Scam
Steely Dan: Can't Buy A Trill
Steely Dan: Countdown To Ecstasy
Donald Fagen: The Nightfly (okay, I admit it, I'm a big Dan Fan)
Van Morrison and The Chieftains: Irish Heartbeat

I haven't looked at anyone's examples yet but I'm sure when I done I'll say, "Oh I should have picked that one!".  So here goes in no particular order.

Camel - Raidances (Normally I'd tie it with "Moonmadness)
Whitesnake - Slide It In
Steely Dan - Gaucho (great for testing out hi-fi equipment)
Steve Winwood - Talking Back to the Night
George Michael - Faith
Hagood Hardy - The Homecoming
Genesis - Trick of the Tail
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Alan Parsons Project - Tales of Mystery and Imagination - Edgar Allen Poe (also a nod to "Eve")
Duane Eddy - Twangy Guitar (features Donnie Owns and two terrific tracks from Neil Sedaka)

Original - I hate that overdubbed guitar in The Raven.  I didn't know it was remixed in the 80s.  That explains it.

The 180 gram made in Japan vinyl is spectacular. Much like a typhoon is spectacular.

Yeah IIRC it was altered for the original CD release - gated reverb was added to the drum tracks, a few extra guitar fills and spoken word bits by Orson Welles. Which was the style at the time.

thanks splunge, I'm okay with being okay, and will check out the earlier Metallica albums to see what you're talking about... and it's been tooo long since I've listened to some of the excellent albums you and other people have listed, I love Alan Parsons Project "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" and many of the others.

Muffaraw Joe, you named artists, but didn't get specific about what album. Care to tell us what you would have as your ten albums?
