We've mentioned this before, but CHUM could sure do themselves a favour with a Saturday night show, or running top-quality old airchecks of which they have many.
Conservative talk and oldies would have an overlap in audience. Sports, which targets males 25 to 54 would have almost no overlap with oldies, so I don't think it would make sense for TSN Radio to do that. The Leafs are on Saturday evenings and the NFL is on Sundays. Those are both important programming elements that they wouldn't want to drop so they could run shows for a completely different demo.

The best place for Ashby's show in Toronto would be AM 740, Now with 88.5 Newmarket dropping the program, does this open it up now for a Toronto station? If this is the case, then AM 740 should be working to get Ashby's show. Tomas you are right, sports radio and oldies are not the best mix. However, if not AM 740 then Sunday morning 9-12noon on TSN 1050 would also be appropriate for Roger's program, since males 25-54 aren't listening then anyway.
The oldies on a Sunday morning would not harm the stations sports image and would attract a new audience for a few hours that aren't listening to TSN 1050. If they were smart they could play up that Sunday 9-12noon was when the show originated back in the 80's. Since Roger is so well known in Toronto, this is an excellent opportunity to attract some new advertisers. Ashby did have the number one morning show in the GTA for many years. Get him on the air on TSN 1050 for a couple of interviews about the show, have some fun with it. TSN 1050 has got nothing to lose and a bit to gain with this.
Listening to Dick Williams show on 980 CFPL this past weekend, full of ads and sponsors for the program that PL normally wouldn't have mid day Saturday and Sunday. In fact Dick's show sounds like it is sold out. TSN 1050 on a Sunday morning could have the same with Roger Ashby. This ain't rocket science...

Just a quick correction. CKDX is not dropping the show. They're just eliminating the Saturday run in the afternoon. It will still be heard on the station, but only on Sundays from 9- noon.

Sorry, you did say just Saturday. I forgot that they ran the program a second time on Sunday morning. Well if they ever do drop the show completely AM 740 should try and pick it up or as mentioned above TSN 1050 on Sunday morning. But if Bell drops Ashby's program at some point, it would also work well on CBC Radio 1 on weekends. All that great old cancon and lesser hits would fit Radio 1 perfectly, and give the program a national audience.
