straight answers

don't get me wrong, running a province during a pandemic ain't easy, but.... i was watching the live provincial update on tv this morning and every time a question, from a member of the press, was addressed by the ontario minister of education, he went on a long promotional ramble about everything except the answer. i realize it's a common thing (when you're afraid to answer) but he came across as an amateur in the art of deflection.  when it comes to the state of emergency (kids in school during a pandemic) please cut the fluff and be honest... and if you're unsure... admit it! although, I did hear one (mildly put) "you didn't answer the question" but (imho) it wasn't enough. personally, i think it's time for reporters to get a bit more aggressive when calling out political bs, especially when it's an issue that can lead to serious health problems... or worse. let's put politics aside and deal with the problem.
i know many reporters visit this board (a few of our big yellow board comments, mine included, have made it to air) so how about a little push back? it couldn't hurt. - end of rant -

Completely agree. Not to get political, but Trudeau's the best (or worst) at it. He never gives a straight answer, yet reporters just accept it. They accept blandishments like ""men and women experience things different" without a hint of challenge. I would have loved to have seen a no-punches-pulled iinterviewer like Mike Wallace take him on, but those reporters don't seen to exist anymore.

Thought of one immediately, Wallace's son, Chris. His Fox News Sunday is the only show on Fox I watch.
Like his father, he doesn't mess around.
Another who quickly came to mind -- the guy who took Trump apart in an Axios interview -- Jonathan Swan.
Worth looking for online!

We need such questioners in Canada. Thanks for the tip.

i know of both (and i agree).
i admit. i have a vested interest in the safety of kids returning to school next month. our grandson is 7 and he lives with us. this is serious sh#t and to say i'm nervous about it all is putting it mildly (no required masks, 20 kids in a room et al).
meanwhile, when i was watching the education minister drone on and on, all i could think of was, "answer the damn question!" it wasn't reassuring.

Re: straight answers

meanwhile, not every local reporter is afraid to call out a public official:
