TVO’s ‘The Agenda’ born again

Damn! I really liked it the way it was. I'm one of those who likes extended, detailed conversation. Since I was in the minority there, I expected that TVO would cater to that.

Ya...I tend to agree Jody. I think Steve does/did a bang-up job. He's come a terrifically long distance since he left the CBC. I believe folks who like the show...like it the way it IS.

When they did their research into what viewers want, I hope they did this among viewers who actually donate money to the station...
Offline
Radiowiz...don't all Ontario taxpayers "donate" money to the station?
Offline
No. It's not the CBC. TVO is part funded by those willing to donate:

Yes. The majority of funding is provided by the Government of Ontario to the tune of about 40 million dollars. But yes, they certainly "pass the plate" and you can give again if you wish.

Nope.
assuming that article from the Red Star is reasonably accurate, bear in mind that figures stated are almost four years old

"The public broadcaster receives about 43 million dollars a year in provincial funding"...
That's a quote from the Toronto Star dated May 15, 2014. Is that number now down to ZERO ???
Radiowiz...don't all Ontario taxpayers "donate" money to the station? You'd thrill me to bits if you can assure me that none of my tax money is going to fund TVO. THAT would be quite the revelation!!!
The numbers quoted above are as you can see 20 months old. Sooooo if you can provide the "latest" set of figures, say from 2015 if possible, if they exist I know I would appreciate it !!!
With thanks...

Yep.
Taxpayer funding of $40 Million, with net viewer donations of $3 Million.
(page 66)
But thanks for the 4 year old article that says nothing.

That's still way down from where it once was.
It was 48 million in 1998. It is years later now, with a lot less money.
(I'm not sure why I thought it was completely phased out, but it is A LOT less money today, and costs are not about to be offered in 1998 rates.)
Those who make a donation should be the ones to have a say first, long before any tax payer has any say about how TVO is run.

Thanks Don.
I believe the last I heard Steve Pakin had an annual salary upwards of 308 thousand dollars.
Jesus H Christ...pass the plate indeed...
"Those who make a donation..." might want to have their heads examined...

So those who pay 6% should have more say than those who pay 94%?

Yes, absolutely. The taxes have already spoken for what the channel is for. The donations are the reason to be heard and have your say.

wow is right...
Maybe if they cut Pakins' 308 thousand dollar salary and made a few more alterations they wouldn't need to grovel...

I'm pro-TVO (sorry) but that logic is absurd. Imagine if it were applied to anything else?

Applied what else? The real wow is not a single word mentioned as to who should replace Steve... (for a lot less money)

Well, for starters, Democracy?
Perhaps you should stick to telling us about the state of your Rogers bundle and channel lineup. Those posts at least have a chance of containing some facts (though I'm starting to question that now too...)

It could be that the NDP will win in a 2018 Ontario protest vote, but we really shouldn't talk politics.
Why whine about TVO wages without even suggesting a lower wage replacement?

I wasn't talking politics.
I was referencing my tax money...
Ooh! Ooh! (Raises hand.)
Steve Pakin at a more reasonable salary?
