Campus Station Knocked Off Air For A Week By Construction Accident

I know there are some members here from Ottawa and they might find this of interest. CKCU-FM, the Carleton University radio station, was knocked off the air last Friday when a construction accident brought down the antenna that feeds the transmitter. The campus outlet has never had such a long outage in its 45 year history.

It continues over the web and hopes to be back on late in the week.

I can't recall an outage that ever lasted that long in Canadian radio.

Meanwhile, everyone's favourite local broadcaster, CKNT, experienced at least 20 minutes of dead air on Wednesday, after a power outage knocked the Mississauga station off the air. They finally returned to 960 AM around 9:20 AM.

I thought it was CJRU, then again I haven’t been in their parking lot lately so I don’t know if they still broadcast.
