Does Anyone Here Remember This Incredible Pioneering Newsman?

I have to admit I'd never heard the name Godfrey Hudson before yesterday, yet it sounds terribly familiar. Who was he? A Canadian radio pioneer.

It started when - like many of us - he was intrigued by distant signals on his radio as a kid. He grew up to be the first Canuck to ever win an RTNDA Award for his work in Saskatchewan, moved onto the old Broadcast News as their senior editor, toiled as Queen's Park Bureau Chief for a time for the Globe and Mail and finished his career helping to assemble a legendary newsroom at the old CKEY.

But that may not even have been his most noticeable achievement. Hudson had cancer that cost him one leg and part of his hip and ended his broadcast career. But as his fascinating obit notes, even though doctors told him in 1964 he likely wouldn't live long, he just kept going, walking with canes every single day and with a fierce determination that kept him here until he finally passed away this month just before his 99th birthday.

His obit is worth a quick read, if only as a tribute to a man who did so much before most of us were even able to tune in a radio. What a remarkable man.

Wow, what an inspiring man. Thank you RA for sharing that...it give us hope in times where hope seems a little mixed up.

Cheers to you and keep well!
