CBC employees were summoned to a "town hall" meeting on Friday, greeted with the news that the head of their news department was leaving suddenly at the end of the day. Jennifer McGuire had been in that position for more than a decade, overseeing the ill-fated revamp of The National, the new direction of CBC Radio 2 and the revving up of the Corp.'s digital online division.
According to an article on the CBC site, the "restructuring" (what an odious word that can be) is being done with "the goal of integrating different areas within CBC."
"We need to move to a more audience-centric approach where we are ultimately working together as one CBC," Barbara Williams, CBC's vice-president of English services told employees.
Exactly what that means in terms of direction and jobs remains to be seen. But expect more changes to come.
