Sometimes, a few stories appear that don’t deserve their own threads. So these are combined into one.
------------------
The first is about a recently established online radio station. Nothing surprising about that, but this one comes from Cashbox Canada, the long time competitor to Billboard, until it fell on hard times.
It’s been resurrected with a new staff and now, in addition to tracking music trends in this country, they’ll also be playing the music they report on. Among those behind the venture: Michael Williams, the old MuchMusic VJ.
Its slogan is “Radio The Way It Used To Be,” which is intriguing. According to the webpage:
“We are…going to play those great songs from the past, your favourite artists and some surprises so tune in.”
It’s possible they may not have officially launched yet, because try as I might, I couldn’t find a promised 24/7 feed. But here’s the info that’s available for now.

Another story comes from a Chicago area guy who always wanted to be a DJ but was talked out of it in high school by his guidance counsellor. Finally, at age 58, the radio bug bit again and he got a big break when he met blues legend Buddy Guy at a concert.
Now both of them have started buddyguyradio, designed to play the kind of music most other stations never will.

Finally, a story that shows just how important radio can be to some people. It comes from England, where a lonely lady known only as “Clara from Bude” would regularly call BBC Radio Cornwall every single Saturday and Sunday at precisely 8:10 AM.
She became something of a fixture with the station’s personnel, especially one of their news people. This went on for a long time, until one recent weekend when she didn’t call in as expected.
Knowing she was a creature of habit, a newswoman worried there was something wrong and contacted authorities. When they went to her house, they discovered this semi-shut-in had died ten days before. And her body likely would never have been discovered so soon had it not been for her close relationship with the station.
Sadly, only a few people attended her funeral – including two from the state broadcaster.

Also, "Oh Wow: The Songs Radio Forgot" is back after a brief outage, nearly 1,600 songs strong:
I know, cheap plug, but hey, it's worth a listen IMHO. It's amazing the songs I keep finding.
