Re: World Radio Day

This is a big deal everywhere but North America. There are newspaper articles in countries ranging from South Africa to India about this. In this part of the world? Not so much.

Re: World Radio Day

I was surprised to hear a 30-sec. adjacency after the 9:30 AM news on CFRB, celebrating World Radio Day. First time I've heard it mentioned anywhere on any local station this year.

Re: World Radio Day

I have to admit that I have never heard of World Radio Day until someone mentioned it here. What exactly is World Radio Day? What is the signifigance of it being celebrated on Feb 13th?

Re: World Radio Day

It's sponsored by UNESCO and I don't think there's anything significant about the date.

Re: World Radio Day

World Radio Day sort of a big deal in other parts of the world because of shortwave radio which is still popular overseas. People in Europe, Middle East, Asia etc. have been turning into shortwave and listening to other countries for decades. Our service is Radio Canada International, which along with BBC World Service is considered one of the most reputable short wave services for news and information. We don't hear much about RCI but internationally it is well known and respected.

Re: World Radio Day

Heather Bambrick on Jazz FM is asking listeners to share their love of radio today, she is reading listener emails on air about how radio has impacted them.

Also, they are playing the "World Radio" spot too..

Plus, I am happy to say Heather, just shared my radio memory I emailed in on air moments ago...

So, there is some action on this...

Happy radio day everyone!

Happier if you still have jobs in the business!

This is the new program director at the station I used to work at... (smiling)

I have heard that spot a couple of times now this morning on 1010. I have to admit I was scratching my head at first wondering who on earth would have sponsored it.

Re: World Radio Day

Yes, def a freebee. Heard a similiar promo on a few different stations yesterday. Guess they are trying to make World Radio Day a thing.
