Why One Of The Most Famous Rock Radio Jingles Happened By Accident

The Los Angeles Times has a story that centres on a single radio jingle - the famous "93/KHJ!" I.D. that was prominently featured in the movie "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." In the piece, the late Johnny Mann remembers being approached in an emergency by the P.D. of the station, which was about to launch its legendary "Boss Radio" format, and needed a jingle.

Unfortunately, the musicians union was on strike at the time, leaving Mann to suggest they do it A cappella - a term the P.D. had no familiarity with. And that's how that instantly recognizable three second shotgun insert arrived with no music bed, one of the reasons it still stands out to this day.
