Longtime Play-By-Play Baseball Voice Retiring After 46 Years

I thought it was amazing when Jerry Howarth bowed out as the voice of the Blue Jays after 36 years in 2018. But he's got nothing on the voice of the Cincinnati Reds. His name is Marty Brennaman and on Thursday he'll be leaving the broadcast booth as the voice of the Reds after an amazing 46 years behind the mic.

I'm not exactly sure why he's not staying until the actual end of the season, but what are they going to do, fire him?

Half a century is a long time to do anything. And a baseball play-by-play announcer may be one of the few jobs in this industry that lends itself to longevity.

As someone who couldn't call a game if his life depended on it, I admire him, especially doing the same gig for 46 years - including all those rado trips. That's quite a career. I'm guessing there won't be a lot more with that kind of staying power as the radio biz continues to contract,

I wonder how long the current Jays team will be around?

MB hasn't been going on all the Reds' road trips, and Thursday is their last home game.
