Right after the 9/11 attacks, Clear Channel (now iHeart Radio) sent a memo to its 1,000-plus stations not to play a list of more than 160 songs out of "sensitivity."
Some of these make perfect sense. Only The Good Die Young by Billy Joel, for example. Or And When I Die by Blood Sweat & Tears. And especially Leavin' On A Jet Plane by Peter, Paul & Mary.
But others are completely unfathomable. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds? Wonderful World by Herman's Hermits? The Stones' Ruby Tuesday (9/11 happened on a Tuesday, but still.) And Get Together by The Youngbloods, a song about peace and understanding. Huh?
Anyway, for what it's worth all these years later, here's the list.
