CRTC Considers Super Channel Licence Suspension For Non-Compliance

The CRTC released a list of stations due to appear at a hearing in late September, most of which are about renewing existing licences over non-compliance with their various promises. Most are in B.C. But it's chosen to single out one specific Canada-wide cable service with warnings if not outright threats.

Super Channel, the national pay TV service owned by Allarco, has been cited for a host of non-compliance issues, including late payments for required contributions, having issues with the distribution of Canadian programs and other commitments in its COL.

“The Commission is particularly concerned about the manner in which the licensee interprets its regulatory obligations set out in Super Channel’s conditions of licence, as well as in the Commission’s policies and regulations to which the licensee is subject,” it warns in its filing.

The fact that Super Channel has been cited before has especially raised the Commission’s ire, and the release states that it could potentially have its licence suspended or revoked.

While it’s unlikely that the CRTC would put them out of business, if you’re a subscriber to this service, you may want to know that – depending on their performance in front of the panel – it’s a possibility.

Re: CRTC Considers Super Channel Licence Suspension For Non-Compliance

Never could figure how Super Channel made money or why anyone would pay $10.00 a month for it.
