It's been more than six decades since the world first heard about a "transisitor radio." According to CBS News, the device was unvelied on October 18th, 1954 and anyone who was a teenager back in the 50s or 60s never went anywhere without one. It was one of the main reasons for the success and spread of the Top 40 format. Hard to believe how far we've come since then, but I still have an old transistor in a back room somewhere and outside of the volume control being a bit dirty, I think it still works.

The other item making news - if you can call it that - is something I'm finding hard to believe. But according to Britain's Daily Mail newspaper, an ordinary blade of grass or some weeds can be used as a radio receiver of sorts - if you're stupid enough to get this close to the transmitter. Whether you buy it or not, the accompanying video is pretty bizarre.
Weed Radio
Is this the same thing as listening to the grass grow?
