There aren’t many commercial terrestrial radio stations that don’t broadcast their signal over the net.
And there aren’t many sponsored stations that rely at least partly on volunteers, who don’t get paid anything.
There are even fewer in the U.S. that are run by a former radio pirate.
And there are likely none that have a playlist consisting of a large number of 78s.
Yes, 78s.
Welcome to WHVW-AM, a small one-lung radio station in at 950 AM in Poughkeepsie, New York that’s really an oldies station. Its repertoire consists of American folk music, jazz, blues, pre-1964 oldies and lots of 78s from the owner’s own vintage collection.
The articles below are anything but recent but somehow this little radio station, bought at a bargain price by a guy who used to work on the old Radio New York International pirate outlet that once broadcast on shortwave, offers a plethora of obscure music and programming, while still fiercely serving its local community of license.
It’s an anomaly in this day of big corporate ownership and despite several attempts, I can’t find a working stream of it anywhere on the Internet. They don’t even have an actual webpage, although there is a Facebook page.
I’m not sure it would be the kind of format I’d listen to on a regular basis, but I sure would like to at least hear what they’re up to.
In this day and age, it’s likely to be a breath of fresh air. If it can somehow afford to stay on that air.

Sounds like they're a mix. Very timeless country driven, along with some other lost 78's out there.
