Soul and R and B singer Jackie Shane, passes away

American born singer, who blazed a trail for many today passed away yesterday...

You'd know her for the hit song "Any other Way"

What made the very private almost reclusive Shane unique was that she was one of the first transgender singers and for some of us, the first transgender person we knew or had seen back in the 60's and 70's...

She paved the way for others...Jackie Shane, the pioneering soul singer who came to prominence playing on Toronto's Yonge Street in the 1960s, has died.Shane's record label, Numero Group, tweeted the artist, a black transgender performer with a riveting voice and look, has passed away at the age of 78.

Shane was recently nominated for a Grammy and also made a bit of a comeback too!

Here is a link to an interview she did on CBC's  Q recently and more background on the life and career of this singer...

Here is the hit song Any other Way...sometimes you hear a song and you like the sound, the beat, the lyrics may touch you somehow, but when you dig deeper as to who is behind the music, you can learn a lot about their life, their struggles and the lessons they are here to teach us.
