Kiss Off: Whatever Happened To Security During Live TV News Shots?

Not that long ago, at the TV station where I work, when we'd send a reporter - especially a female correspondent - out on a live shoot, we used to have a fairly burly fellow standing nearby just to make sure nothing untoward happened. With all the cutbacks in recent years, maybe they can't afford that luxury anymore. Which might explain why we're seeing an increasing number of surprise attacks during live shots, the most recent of which happened in B.C., when a woman doing a live hit about a music festival was ambushed by a shirtless idiot, who gave her a kiss, took a selfie, and then ran off.

She clearly wasn't prepared but she finished the report. Still, cops are probing this latest incident and if I'm not mistaken, this could be considered assault. Maybe the answer is more security or fewer risky live shots where drunken louts are sure to be found. If I were a female reporter these days, I'd be increasingly nervous about how widespread this kind of thing is becoming.
