It happened again on Wednesday, as it has almost every time any story involving school girl killer Paul Bernardo comes up. On Wednesday, the monster was up for parole, which thankfully was denied. But that meant the inevitable reappearance of lawyer Tim Danson, who represents the families of the murdered girls.
Whenever this story re-emerges, someone on radio (on Wednesday it was CFRB's Ryan Doyle) winds up calling the advocate "Ted Danson."
Just to reiterate: TIM Danson is the lawyer for the families. TED Danson is the actor currently appearing on The Good Place and on several other shows, most famously Cheers.
I can certainly see how this can happen. And yet you'd think everyone would be aware of this almost inevitable slip by now and avoid it. Not this time. And I'm guessing not next time it comes up, either.
It must drive Tim Danson crazy, although I suspect he's probably used to it by now.

The name mistake that drove me nuts during the last provincial election, was the ridiculous number of times I heard so-called 'political commentator' guests and callers alike refer to Doug Ford as ROB Ford. It happened almost every single day during the campaign, and I never understood why the mistake was never corrected by the host. They always just let it slide. I also happened to pick up a copy of the Hamilton Spectator, where the lead editorial was discussing election issues, and yup, the conservative leader was referred to as ROB Ford throughout. Are there no editors for the editors?
I'd completely forgotten about that, but you're right. It's just a brain cramp, but frankly, I'm still hearing that mistake repeated more often than you'd expect. Whatever his faults, Rob Ford certainly seems to have worked his way into people's consciousness.
