In a sign that perhaps not enough of its customers actually craved CraveTV, Bell has reversed its original stance on who can get the service. You may remember when it started, the bloated monolith insisted you had to have a cable or satellite subscription to receive it. But a few days ago, they reversed that edict and now anyone with an Internet connection will be able to pony up the bucks to see it on their screens, starting January 1, 2016.
According to the Globe and Mail: “As our business model has continued to evolve, the time is right to also offer CraveTV as a standalone product,” Mary Ann Turcke, president of Bell Media, said in a statement.
Translation of that bafflegab: we weren't getting the subs and Netflix is killing us.
It never made much sense to turn away potential customers and in an era of increasing cord cutting and competition, it seems senseless for Bell to have continued this ridiculous charade for so long. The company assures it has absolutely nothing to do with Rogers allowing open access to shomi, and if you believe that, there's a bridge in Brooklyn that just went up for sale on eBay.
CraveTV to be offered to any Canadian with an Internet connection
