CHFI & CBC Radio 1 Claim Fall PPM Ratings Victory

The fall PPM ratings for Toronto are out and you CAN tell the winning players without a program. Mainly because they’re mostly the same as always. CHFI claims the local crown with a 12.5 share, while CBC’s Radio 1 continues to do well with a 10.3. (Rogers is already out with a self congratulatory press release.

But what the hell happened to the once mighty CHUM-FM? Their share is only 6.6. I can’t recall seeing it that low in a long while, if ever. It has both Q107 and AM 740 nipping at its heels.

They must be celebrating over at CFRB, which clocked in with a whopping 7.4, driven by a series of news events and Donald Trump’s presidency. 680 News isn’t far behind at 7.1, perhaps explaining why 640 is still doing talk. But they’ll have a lot to talk about internally at Corus Quay. The new “Global News Radio” (which was AM 640 when the ratings were taken) came in with a dismal 1.8, which is very disappointing.

And my favourite whipping boy – TSN 1050 – only slightly out rates its Hamilton counterpart, with a 0.4. How long can they continue to accept such terrible numbers for what this costs to run? The Fan, meanwhile, clocks in at 2.0.

You can see the full list here.

It's bloody ironic that Stafford constantly mocks his former employer, NT1010. Yet, they are wiping GNR640 like a cannibal noshes on a salted caramel piece of human goodness.

Did it ever occur to him that 1010 ("the old folks home" as he calls it) is doing it right? Maybe, Mike, if your station had superior numbers, you'd have a right to mock. Oh well, time for his Bored Bunnies to lend their 2 Pecos on the matter. 🤔

Same old, same old...same [w.] O.L.D.  In spite of sliding into playing even shittier and, in addition, too WAY simplistic, unlistenable, elevator pop 'miew-sick'...CHFI continues to target ONLY the girlies at work.  [giggle giggle...GIGGLE] The 'winning' formula remains purposefully programmed, puke inducing poop 'cause a happy life is controlled by a horde of ... wives... ... ...and single girls.  [at least at the office]  Good gawd...I wouldn't listen to that 'F.I.' crap unless I was paid to...but OH how I'd Loonnngggg for the weekend...every gawd-forsaken day.  It's just bloody torture.  Argh!!!   Men?  Ya gotta start telling 'the powers that pee [into a cup]' that YOU...L I K E  to shop...or it'll never change.  Even the so-called 'mighty 'q' is programming pop-rock and top 40 hits...to the girls.  Hello!!!  Wake up boys.  You are your own worst enemy.

Worse?  C-hum-eff emm.  Now THAT muzak should be put into a strange looking, unmarked, brown cardboard box and left sitting, idle and unattended, in the lobby of a major hotel, on a train or subway platform OR in front of C-hum-eff emm's studios and then the box should be BLOWN UP by an expert crowd of anti terrorist 'coppers' with a pant-load of  Double-D dynamite...'cause THAT playlisted manure is, indeed, TERRIBLE!!!  But then C-hum-eff emm has pretty much already blown itself up haven't they?  What an irritating, yet totally boring, Y A W N festival 104.5 has become.  The "C.H.U.M. FM, one oh four point 5 in stereo" alumni must be rolling over like pigs on a lathe encased in a oxygen deprived coffin to hear what has become of that once proud franchise.

So?  As much as I don't subscribe to...or knowingly do business with...Rogers...and as totally non-imaginable as they are with their always safe programming...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...Bell can take credit for BOTH C-hum-eff emm's free fall AND for TSN 1050.  Bell ever-so obviously knows diddly about what they're doing with electronic media...as don't their executives and so-called programmers.  Everyone else?  Learn from what these bozos sometimes get right and always get wrong.  Oh gawd!!!  What am I thinking!?!?!  THAT ain't gonna happen.  Most people driving along in their automobiles can out program you.  Why?  They don't have that losing combo of shareholders and bonuses shoved deep up inside their baxides...right beside the gerbils.
------------------------------------------------------------

I also think that the ratings people give WAY too much weight to a single 'ballot'.  One participant doesn't represent 10,000 people.  They, more likely, represent closer to only ONE thousand.  There aren't THAT many folks listening to traditional radio.  BELIEVE it.  Really.  I mean why would they?  They wouldn't.

I totally agree on the Chum FM "review"....I cant believe they toot that as "Todays Best Music".  Its also a station heavely geared to women it seems...from the announcers alone.  Ingrid Schumacher days were long gone and their playlist which atleast had some decent 80s, 90s up until today included in it made it more interesting but now.....geeze.  Paltry pop music and not even a variety of that at best.  Theres only so much slow Sam Smith songs I can hear at work and anything "old" now would be repeats of Rihanna - Umbrella ella.

CHFI atleast carries a variety of what they do play.

What happened at CHUM-FM?
They fired all of the talent that made it what it was.
Only Roger and Marilyn are left and they're hamstrung by the shitty music and boring repetitive commercials and promos.
Roger's writer was fired, the extremely talented man who had been writing all the bits for decades.
His support staff in traffic and news are gonzo as well, blown out in the latest round of Bhell's "If you're any good and making a decent buck, you're gone" routine.
Now I see Bhell is again promoting it's "Let's Talk" campaign about mental health.
What a bunch of bumbling hypocrites!

Re: CHFI & CBC Radio 1 Claim Fall PPM Ratings Victory

I find that it's not just the loss of the talent that stings. That these people have lasted in the biz for so long and many at one station in an era of revolving doors speaks volumes about their abilities. But there's one other less tangible side effect when they disappear.

If management chooses to replace them at all, inevitably they hire someone fresh out of a small market or broadcasting school, who will work for less than nothing. Those same people never get to absorb the wisdom or mentorship of these long serving pros. A good 80% of everything I ever learned in broadcasting was from the experience of someone else, who took the time to show me the ropes.

Nowadays, those ropes are just used to hang people. I guess that means we've gone from newsroom to noose-room.

As for those dearly departed after so many years, I think they should change the name of their former company's upcoming campaign from "Bell Let's Talk" to "Bell? Let's Talk - To A Labour Lawyer."

Yikes! I cannot imagine how CBC 1 gets a 10.3 share.

Can anyone explain how unimaginative, politically tilted left-wing programming garners such ratings?

Yes.   No commercials.

Number 2 with women 24 to 54 is acceptable.  That's their money demo.

 Post reply  1 of 1

The quote option should be there as above.  Hit "quote" first and and then type outside the quote and submit or one can simply "post reply" without any quote.
