Cumulus, which controls an astounding 446 radio stations in the U.S., has filed for bankruptcy.
The company owns some legendary outlets, including WABC New York, WMAL Washington D.C., WLS Chicago, WJR Detroit and KLOS in Los Angeles. And it's got its mitts on a host of Buffalo stations, like WGRF (97 Rock,) WEDG (aka The Edge 103), WHTT 104.1 (formerly known as Oldies 104) and 1270 WHLD, the CBS All Sports AMer in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
The firm claims to have enough capital to keep operating for now, but can you imagine what might happen if they have to get rid of some of these properties? My fear is that another giant will swallow many of them up, and we'll be right back where we started from - mainly, one or two conglomerates owning nearly every important station in a market.

FCC still dictates that no one company is allowed to own more than 60% of a market.

Somehow 60% doesn't exactly make me feel any more optimistic.
This will be the future for bell. Rogers? Maybe. Too many toys to take swimming...sooner or later...you sink. And there'll be no one left to shed a tear.
