It's only an assumption, but it appears the ever-changing AM640 line-up has finally landed on some stability.
After several months of rotating mid-morning and afternoon hosts, that included one or two week appearances by the likes of radio veterans such as Barb DiGiulio or a prolonged stay by Shaye Ganam from Edmonton, it seems like the Toronto Corus talk station has finally arrived at a permanent schedule to follow morning man Greg Brady.
Rod Black, who was supposed to be a temporary fill-in, has now been doing the 9AM-noon shift long enough to say he's there to stay.
And although you would think he has enough to do with his music gig on CFNY and several other Corus stations out west, Drex seems to have planted himself securely in the noon-3 PM slot.
Black has a little too much sports in his show for my taste, but I get it - you do what you know and he's on good terms with a large number of former sports celebrities who are willing to come on with him. And while Drex is just OK and has done previous talk show work for Corus back in the overnight show days, at least you know what you're getting.
Anything is better than the revolving door that used to occupy that space, which the station has officially branded "Middays." It's impossible to promote a constantly changing line-up. And while anything can happen in radio as too many of us know from experience, It's nice to see they've finally landed on a line-up that's not full of surprises from one week to another.

So, 640's format is almost like the old mojo format?
A lifestyle and entertainment oriented station outside of morning and afternoon drive?
I hope this new orientasion makes 640 money and increeses there ratings.
If they want, they should bring back the mojo brand.

Drex is not good he blames his producers on air when they don't have a guest or something went wrong

I used to avoid Hutton and Richards afternoons on 1010 like the plague. Now, they get the nod, albeit reluctantly, along with CKTB.. 640 has not fixed the pm time slot. They've killed it.

Deb gets my nod, but richards, He's so anoying, he yells a lot, and all he cairs about is downtown and the more hipper parts of the east and west ends.
When he's on, I swich to 640, CKTB, 740 for music, or just turn the radio off.

Producers and tech. Producers always win in the end. They just need to bide their time. They can make a host sound really, really good or really, really bad. Not intentionally, of course.

He doesn't need any help in the sounding bad department.

I almost thoght you were talking about jim richards untill you were talking about drex.
Another host that made me change the station, brad smith when he was on.
Drex's show is boring and not my interest.
12 PM is a good time for me to flip.
You have fight back on 740 which I love, also vasi kapelos who I also love, and the boombox lunch, I love the callers on that program.

To make that stronger, they could do with a magazine to back them.
Bell would LOVE for AM 640 to go back to talk radio for guys.
Less head on competition. (something that might actually work out for both parties)

Nothing either station does will make any meaningful difference to ratings or revenue.

I think that's mostly there new lean.
Less politics now with peirson gon, and more lifestyle, entertainment, and sports with a bit of politics on greg and ben's shows.
But, I admittedly don't listen to 640 as much as 1010.
1010 other than when oakly and bill carol were on 640, was always my goto talk station over 640.
I loved and miss friendly fire in the evenings, the tarik fata show, the john domabe show, the motts, and ted wolashon's old show with bill king.
