It will be a countrified start to 2027, if you watch CP24 or subscribe to Crave. The two stations will be simulcasting a special New Year's Eve show live from Niagara Falls, featuring rising C&W star Riley Green, among others.
It's interesting that it won't be on CFTO as well. I'm not sure what they'll be doing before midnight, but I'm willing to bet it will be a simulcast of a U.S. countdown to midnight. We'll know more when the date nears.
Meanwhile, does anyone remember when City TV used to stage a huge concert/celebration at Nathan Phillips Square on Dec. 31st? It lasted several years, so much so it was called "traditional."
It started in 1984, became embedded with City TV the next year and ended in 2012, when new owner Rogers - who else? - decided to save money by showing the much cheaper Dick Clark ABC show from New York's Times Square instead. Sadly no one has picked up the local mantle since.

Riley Green is also headlining the Grey Cup halftime show next month.
And yes, I do remember the Citytv New Year’s Eve celebration at Nathan Phillips Square, they were huge. They introduced some great talent back in the day, although Barenaked Ladies got banned one year! It was a well attended/viewed show. Of course Rogers axed it, although it had become a “tradition”, as RA pointed out. I sometimes think Rogers wanted to erase Citytv’s history, which they pretty much did.

We have been going to Niagara Falls on New Year's Eve for a few years now. We do celebrate inside one of the Restaurants and watch the Midnight Fireworks. Its very impressive.
I am happy they are returning to the outdoor program. It will bring more people to the area.
But I will be staying inside.

IIRC CTV shows a movie at 11:30 PM on New Year’s Eve. I don’t recall them doing anything special for years.
And with Citytv’s simulcast of Dick Clark’s NYE show, they have always been showing it 1 hour later in Alberta, meaning “midnight” on that show airs at 1 AM.
