The long running NBC show has been a big hit for decades. And now there's a new date line for Dateline - Canada.
City TV will be debuting a Great White North version of the show, which started as a 60 Minutes magazine type program, but now seems mostly devoted to true crime stories. It appears the Canuck clone will follow suit. The first episode of "Dateline Canada" will centre on a famous local murder case, with more to follow.
And a familiar face and voice will help launch it here this week.
"Keith Morrison, who got his start in journalism in his native Canada, will be in Toronto on Wednesday to tout the first international expansion of the Dateline franchise as part of a licensing deal with Rogers Studios. Dateline Canada on Citytv and Citytv+ will be hosted by Diana Swain, a former senior investigative correspondent for CBC News and host of The Investigators on the CBC News Network in Canada."
The show debuts here on Nov. 26th, which is a Thursday. That creates an interesting dilemma for Rogers. It has been simulcasting the U.S. Law & Orders on that night (9 & 10 PM), with its own Law & Order: Toronto preceding both of them at 8 o'clock. Unless Dateline airs at 7 PM, which isn't likely. it's not clear what will happen to their line-up on that evening.

For the first week, if American Thanksgiving allows for repeats, this allows for City TV to drop an L&O for one week, but I suspect the real plan will be to fit Canadian Dateline in @ 7PM.
