Happy Thanksgiving!

I would like to wish all the Canadian members of the SOWNY board a happy Thanksgiving and I hope most of us get Monday off. To the American members here, yours is coming! If you can swing it, please consider a food bank donation, things are really rough this year apparently, thanks.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving!

We had a pre-thanksgiving feast last week and deep-fried a turkey. Turned out quite nicely.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving!

I especially am giving thanks for all the members (and non-member readers) who come here on a daily or weekly basis to read the posts so many put up here. Sometimes I can be a turkey, but we try to provide sufficient stuffing on the site to keep everyone interested.

Good or critical, I appreciate all your help in keeping this place alive. (Unlike that turkey on your dinner table!)

Happy Gobble Gobble Day to all!

Thank you Ale Ont! And as far as I know, that turkey is still touring Toronto, brave bird at this time of the year!

Same to you.
But just waiting around to hear christmas crooners and carols on the radio.
I don't get excited for All I want for christmas is you, I'm more excited to hear o holy night and white christmas.
Canadian radio should play slade's merry christmas and wisard's I wish it could be christmas instead of the same christmas pop songs, and there lowering there percentages of crooners and carols.
On CHFI, I rarly hear silent night or hark the harold angels sing.
I miss star 102.5.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving, I am greatful for having a place like this where we can give our thoughts and opinions about everything happening in the media. Just think about who is in our group. People like me who never worked in radio or TV but always had a interest in the industry.  We also have podcasters,  radio station owners, people who are retired and I think a few who are still working.
An interesting group and for the most part we all get along with each other.
A lot to be thankful for.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving!

I did a mini-dial scan in the morning and was surprised to find one station doing actual live programming I wasn't expecting. Outside of 680 News, which obviously can't do rerolls, CBC Radio 1 seemed to be live and local. And believe it or not, CFAJ St. Catharines, which had an honest-to-God live morning man in on the holiday, playing oldies and talking about what was going on in the Niagara Region.

To be honest, I didn't even know they had any live hosts, let alone voice tracking! But I knew he was live, since he talked about stuff that only someone who was actually there would have known about.

I understand why most stations do re-rolls and automation on a holiday weekend. But kudos to those who went live. I'm thankful for them this Thanksgiving.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving!

I too scanned around this morning and listened to Radio 1 for a bit and I’m fairly certain AM740 was live, listened for a bit as well. I ended up listening to the BBC on their app, always a good backup!

CFAJ is mostly a jukebox.

But it appears they do have a live morning and afternoon show. The morning show host is named Tony Stuart, who does his show remotely from Perth, Ont., while also appearing on at least 2 other stations.

Afternoons belong to Ella Mack.

They also have some weekend programming that is definitely not live, but at least it's not just automated music with a few liners in beween.

Still here. I'm so old and tough, no one wants to carve me.

Just checked the station out-much more varied music than CKOC and the fact they have any personalities is also a major step up.

They actually have a pretty deep playlist, unlike other "favourites" or oldies stations. Too bad the signal into the GTA is terrible, and non-existent at night. But you can always listen online.
